Community Life Support - High Fidelity Mannikins
Basic Life Support Training Program
Community Life Support is a program I developed in a lead-role with local tutors at Bakhtawar Amin Medical & Dental College, Multan, while working as a Clinical Teaching Fellow in the Department of Community Medicine
This program was aimed towards equipping medical students in the medical college with essential life-saving skills as a hands-on training program, which was conducted as a series of sessions, dividing students into groups and delivering demonstration and hands-on sessions separately, spanning over a period of around 3 months.
Community Life Support is a program developed to equip medical students with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively perform life-saving interventions in clinical and community emergency settings. Upon completion, students will be able to demonstrate effective CPR, use of an AED, and manage airway obstructions.
Understand the principles of the Chain of Survival.
Correctly assess and manage an airway obstruction.
Provide effective rescue breaths using a mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-barrier technique.
Recognize signs of cardiac arrest and initiate CPR.
Demonstrate high-quality chest compressions.
Safely and confidently use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The program was initiated as my personal interest in life-support skills, from my Advanced Life Support Certification from the European Resuscitation Council.
Having been experienced in life-support procedures and skills since the beginning of my clinical experience, I understand the sheer importance of these skills in everyday life, from anybody around as bystander or a medical professional needs a good knowledge & training of these skills to be able to save a precious life.
A timely response and initiation of CPR has resulted in significant impact on patient outcomes.

Head of the Department, Assistant Professor & rest of the faculty participating in the program along with students.
Introduction of the program was thoroughly welcomed in the department and aided by the head of department by streamlining the processes.
His personal participation in the process and sessions was a key motivator.
He also introduced the idea of recognition of the participation of the students, and agreed to the idea of issuance of e-certificates of participation on the behalf of the department and instructors to help students collect artefacts of participation for their portfolios .
Community Life Support was aimed to ensure that medical students are trained and capable of responding confidently to life-threatening emergencies. With the provided training, students will be prepared to provide effective emergency care in both clinical and community settings.
